Smithers Pride 2022

Smithers Pride Society is gearing up for its 5th Annual Smithers Pride Event. On Saturday, June 4th 2022, folks from Northern BC and afar will gather to celebrate diversity and inclusion. The Smithers Pride Society’s purposes are to initiate, create, sponsor and develop educational and cultural activities and events, on a non-profit and charitable basis; to promote the development, visibility, and pride in the 2SLGBTQ+ communities. Smithers Pride has had attendees travel as far as Prince Rupert and Fort St John. Every year the number of guests in attendance has doubled. This speaks volumes to the need for 2SLGBTQ+ events, education, community support and participation. There is much work left to be done but each year we get a little closer to becoming a town that welcomes and supports all people.

During this Pandemic it has become abundantly clear how important staying connected is. During the pandemic we pivoted and celebrated Smithers Unstoppable Pride virtually for the past 2 years. We had folks tuning in and participating from all over Canada. We had a number of incredible drag performances from Canadian Celebrity Drag Queens, Local and Canadian Musicians. They were super fun online events, our guests were definitely dancing in their living rooms!

This year we are returning to Main Street to celebrate in person!! Showcasing our incredible local musicians, vendors and businesses who support the 2SLGTBTQ+ Community. Smithers Public Library will host their annual family friendly Pride Story Time for our younger guests to celebrate. Smithers Art Gallery will also return and host a Pride related art activity
